Carrying responsibility without losing yourself.

Leadership is one of life's greatest privileges.

It is also one of life's greatest paradoxes.

Whether you lead a school, nonprofit, business, congregation, team, or family, the responsibilities that give your life meaning can also slowly pull you away from the very person you hope to become.

The Weight of Purpose is an invitation to lead differently—to carry responsibility without losing yourself beneath it.

Before You Read

If you've found your way to this page, there's a good chance you care deeply about your work.

  • You want your life to matter.

  • You want your leadership to make a difference.

  • You want the people around you to flourish because you were part of their story.

  • And perhaps, like me, you've also discovered that purpose carries weight.

For years, I believed that the answer to leadership was simply becoming stronger, working harder, and carrying more. I loved serving. I loved building organizations. I loved developing people. Yet somewhere along the way, I realized that the very responsibilities I cared about most were slowly obscuring the person carrying them.

From the outside, everything looked meaningful. Inside, I found myself wrestling with questions that accomplishment alone could not answer.

Was I still living the life I truly wanted?

Or had I slowly become consumed by the responsibilities I had chosen?

As I began coaching leaders from schools, nonprofits, businesses, and faith communities, I discovered that I wasn't alone.

Again and again, remarkable people shared the same quiet tension.

They loved their work.

They believed in their mission.

They cared deeply about the people they served.

Yet beneath the weight of responsibility, many quietly wondered how to continue leading without losing themselves in the process.

I wrote this book because I believe no one should have to carry that weight alone.

More importantly, I believe there is another way.

My hope is that these pages feel less like a leadership book and more like a thoughtful companion—one that challenges you, encourages you, and continually invites you back to the person you are becoming.

Why I Wrote This Book

The Weight of Purpose grew out of my own leadership journey and hundreds of conversations with leaders who carried similar questions.

This is not a book about having all the answers.

It is about asking better questions.

Questions that help us examine our assumptions, clarify our values, navigate life's inevitable paradoxes, and lead with greater integrity.

Throughout these pages, I invite you to slow down, reflect honestly, and reconnect with the deeper purpose that first inspired your leadership.

Because leadership is not simply about accomplishing more.

It is about becoming more fully yourself while faithfully serving others

What You'll Discover

Instead, it explores the inner work of leadership—the work that shapes every decision, every relationship, and every organization we influence.

Inside you'll discover:

  • A framework for navigating the paradoxes of leadership.

  • Practical coaching questions that invite honest reflection.

  • Stories from real leadership experiences.

  • Research-informed insights woven together with practical wisdom.

  • Reflection exercises designed to translate insight into intentional action.

You'll learn how to:

  • Carry responsibility without carrying it alone.

  • Lead with conviction while remaining open and humble.

  • Balance strength with sensitivity.

  • Make difficult decisions without abandoning your values.

  • Build healthier organizations by becoming a healthier leader.

  • Live with greater alignment between who you are and how you lead.

Because the greatest leadership challenge is often not managing others.

It is stewarding yourself.
